The other day I decided that I wanted to take photographs. I live in St. John’s Newfoundland and have often been in awe of the many photos that I have seen taken by other people. The area is beautiful and has wonderful colours. I met up with a photography group to take some photos and really enjoyed my day. The air was chilly but when the sun came out it warmed the soul, and the downtown was buzzing.
When I woke up that morning, I did not think I would be gone all day. In actual fact, I thought I would be downtown a couple of hours and be back home. I did not count on being invited on a boat tour of St. John’s to try to see an ice burg, whales or both. The fog was rolling in, and the boat ride was going to be cold. That being said, I decided that yes I would go, despite being underdressed and not sure about being on the water. I found a warm spot on the boat and just huddled down. The bright blue, crisp day turned into a dull clammy fog as we moved out into the ocean. The boat ride was lulling me off to a sleep-wake state as the motion was one of peace and tranquility.
After a while, there were some white birds with yellow beaks flying and diving into the ocean. I know that there are such birds in existence, but to see it up front close and personal it was truly awe inspiring. As I was waiting with my camera to get that exquisite shot, I realized, I did not have the correct lens. That is when I heard my inner voice reminded me to enjoy the moment. So, I turned off my camera and just decided to embrace the moment. Watching these majestic creatures dive into the ocean and then come back up just to sit and wait like nothing was happening was truly amazing. Now these are just memories in my head. On our way back the fog seemed to disappear like magic, and we were faced with an incredible day on the blue Ocean.
Sometimes life hands us beautiful gifts, and it is up to us to go with the flow. It is also important to remind ourselves to be grateful to the universal source for such beautiful gifts. This was the reminder to be present in the moment and to enjoy what life has to offer us.
With Blessings and Grace.
